We are excited to share information about the Intersections Science Fellows Symposium, to be held November 1-3, 2021. This multi-institutional, postdoc-led, faculty-advised initiative seeks to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic science by giving mid-to-late stage postdocs from diverse backgrounds the chance to showcase their work; network with leaders from institutions with open faculty searches; and receive 1:1 mentoring and professional development.  

Postdocs from any U.S.-based lab, who are ready or almost ready to transition to a faculty position, are eligible to apply (no nationality requirements). Priority research areas include genetics, genomics, developmental biology, cell biology, biophysics & biochemistry, neuroscience, immunobiology, microbiology, computational biology, and quantitative biology. Applicants from underrepresented backgrounds are particularly encouraged. Applications consist of a research statement (1 page), a diversity statement (1 page), and a CV, submitted by Monday, September 6 (11:59pm). 

A total of 30 promising scientists will be selected. This event is driven by more than 20 institutions and will offer exposure to postdocs aiming to transition to faculty positions. The program will not only showcase talented scientists and their work but also to give fellows a support network of peers, mentors, and champions for their long-term professional development and academic career success.

This event will be virtual, open, and free for all to attend, and we encourage you and your colleagues to participate.

Requirements

The symposium will accept applications from postdocs currently in any U.S. lab (no citizenship requirement) who:

• are ready or almost ready for the U.S. academic job market,

• whose published (peer-reviewed) or near-published (e.g., preprint) work is in the basic biological sciences (including, but not limited to, genetics, genomics, developmental biology, cell biology, biophysics & biochemistry, neuroscience, immunobiology, microbiology, computational biology, quantitative biology)
