Description
Full job description: https://limnology.wisc.edu/employment/phin-project-intern-at-trout-lake-station/
Deadline: Rolling
We seek a summer student to participate in a guided research project in one or more areas related to lake health, wild rice, or fish parasites and to assist in organizing and planning for the PhIN (Phenological initiatives for INdigenous peoples in Limnology) Project. This research project is out of the University of Wisconsin Center for Limnology (CFL) field station at Trout Lake Research Station (Boulder Junction, WI).
Work will include some aspects of field and/or laboratory work, and the person hired will interact with local communities about the waters of the region. In addition, the person in this position will assist with organizing data collected by past PhIN workshops, assist Lac du Flambeau Tribal Natural Resources in organizing a Summer PhIN workshop, and assist in formalizing the future PhIN network with the aim of building strong, long-term relationships between public, private, and Tribal higher education institutions and Tribal Nations in the upper Midwest.
Having students with different life experiences and backgrounds is critical to ensure the exchange of diverse ideas that is called for in training tomorrow’s scientists. Because we are actively working to increase diversity and inclusivity in our discipline, underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
