Prospective PhD Preview (P3)
The 2026 P3 application now live.
The Princeton Prospective Ph.D. Preview (P3) is a nationally recognized program that focuses on engaging scholars from diverse academic, research, and non-traditional experiences around the path to the Ph.D. The program prepares scholars for the graduate application process, provides skill and professional development workshops, and gives students the opportunity to learn more about the hidden curriculum of graduate education. P3 Scholars will also have the opportunity to learn and hear from current Princeton graduate students, faculty, and staff to get an understanding of program requirements and expectations.
The P3 program is open to all interested students, including freshman, sophomore, third, juniors, seniors, and post-graduates of all levels.

The P3 Program provides:
Interaction with current Princeton graduate students
Opportunities to engage with Princeton programs and departments
Graduate application and funding workshops
Skill-building, networking, and professional development opportunities
Application Requirements:
A statement describing your current academic and professional goals, as they relate to your interest in graduate study. This statement should specifically mention the programs of study at Princeton that you are interested in, and two or three of our faculty members whose work is of particular interest to you.

Your current resume or CV.

*Applicants interested in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Physics may have specific letter of recommendation requirements. Please review the application 'Letters of Recommendation' page for more information or review the FAQ section.
Requirements
Any rising first-year, sophomore, junior, senior, or post-graduate interested in pursuing a PhD can apply. The program also welcomes students from non-traditional academic backgrounds.
*The program is not designed for students interested in Master's degree programs, medical doctor programs, or law programs.
